On New Specs & Failed Target Spend

On Monday I received a phone call from the optician to say that my glasses were ready to pick up.  I was amazed as I didn't expect to collect them until the coming Saturday but I tootled off to town yesterday to fetch them.  I'm always a bit trepidatious about collecting them in case they are not quite right when I've already paid upfront in full, but I needn't have worried, they seem fine.  My day specs have bronze frames and Transitions lenses and my prescription sunglasses (for driving when the sun is really bright) are tortoiseshell...

They cost £279 for both pairs which isn't too bad in the scheme of things.  ( I do hate being photographed 😱  Who is that old lady? 😱 )  I did, however, have a shock when I went for the eye examination as I was told that cataracts are forming.  They knew 2 years ago but didn't tell me at the time.  I simply dread getting to the stage when something needs to be done about them.  I have a phobia of people messing with my eyes.

We are having a delivery of shopping this evening which will be the final spend for April in the sum of  £41.41  Unfortunately, this means that we have gone slightly over budget but I felt far too dizzy today to do a physical shop myself anyway, so I'm pretty glad I booked a slot. The total has been amended and I class this as  Failed 😏  Mind you, the way prices are increasing on a daily basis it would have been a struggle to stay within the £200 target.

How is your food shopping going?

Stay safe x

  1. Your glasses look good, both hubby and Iaugh when we are walking to our local village, cars often stop to let us cross the road, I alway say they are stopping for a old couple, but that can't be us. The shopping prices are rising far to fast, plus the gaps on the supermarket shelves are making shopping for food, no fun at all.

  2. I just had my cataracts removed in October and November of 2021. It was a piece of cake. 10 minute procedure. Wait a week and another 10 minutes. You're done.

  3. I think you look great. Gosh, I spent over $200. at the grocery store today for a stock up. I bought two large bags of dog food and enough food to stay away from the shops for a while. We've had another surge here in Covid cases.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie :) I'm glad we don't have to buy pet food as it would push us to the limit. Wild bird food we can just about manage. I bet Jacques takes some feeding!

  4. You look great and those glasses look good, too. Sorry to hear about the cataracts; I have them, too, but, I've been told they are not ready to be removed. Glad you were able to get a slot for groceries to be delivered. Sorry you went over budget, but, it's not by a huge amount and maybe you can come under budget, next month! With the cost of groceries going up, it's hard to stay under budget, isn't it?

    1. Indeed it is Bless. Thank you for your kind compliment on my specs. We will certainly persist with watching food spending but, you are right, it's getting increasingly difficult. I think we need to look out for more yellow sticker reductions. Stay safe x

  5. Your glasses look great but I am sorry to hear about the cataracts. I know what you mean about having your eyes messed with I'm the same.

  6. The old lady in your photo really suits her new glasses, I have tortoiseshell patterned sunglasses too, they make everything look warm and cosy, unlike Alan's blue tinted ones that make everything look cool and chilly. Don't be scared about having the cataracts removed when the time comes, I used to be terrified at the thought of anything like that and then I plucked up the courage to have my eyes lasered and hey, it was pain-free and so easy.

I have an old lady that keeps popping up in my mirror ... and she obviously came on holiday with us as there she is in all our photos!!
