A Plan Thwarted & a Chuckle

After all my efforts over the last week or so to reduce our electricity consumption, I came downstairs this morning to find that G, who came to bed after me, had left the sitting room light on ALL NIGHT 😒 Well, that's wiped out any savings right away...grrr....

In the post this morning were 2 energy statements from British Gas: one gas, one electricity.  Fair enough you might say, but we also received one last Friday for electricity following my submitting a reading, as requested.  Today's bill is estimated for 3 days useage.  Why? Especially as we have been getting paperless billing over the last 12 months.  The cost of admin must be rocketing and will be passed on to the consumer I'm sure.  I despair.....

I couldn't resist chuckling at this sign which my nephew posted on social media though, it says it all 😂

I was, however, quite disappointed to find that Ernie hasn't drawn any of my premium bond numbers again this month.

I live in hope! 😉

The sun is just beginning to emerge so I'm off to open some windows and tackle the ironing.

Stay safe everyone wherever in the world you happen to be x

  1. Ernie gave us 2 of the smallest prizes today - first in AGES! I love your sign I may copy it to our village Facebook page as we have a really big problem with litter!

  2. That's a great sign. Turning lights off really does make a diffence.

  3. Love the sign.

Harvey sometimes forgets to turn off the lights as well. I despair that we will never be able to save on electrical costs at that rate.

    God bless.

  4. An email from my gas & electric provider included my latest bill - all based on estimated readings. WHY??? I have a Smart meter, plugged in (using my electricity!) and supposedly sending half-hourly readings to EDF. What a complete waste of time and electricity. EDF have asked me to send a meter reading; I have replied saying that because of my poor sight, I am unable to read the meter and asking that they send a meter reader. Apparently, they can't do that because of Covid. Huh? They don't need to come anywhere near me in order to read either meter. Both are accessible from outside.

    1. How frustrating for you, Rambler, especially when you can't take your own readings to check the bills. Our smart meter for electricity does work but we don't have one for Gas and I have to get on my knees with my 'computer' glasses on to read it. When will we ever get back to normal I wonder. Stay safe x

  5. I too have a husband who can never manage to find the off switch for the light. It is frustrating : )
