What Kids Need To Know

With the start of lockdown-easing today, children are going back to school at last.  It has been a whole year since the Grandchildren picked up their folders, collected their bags and went home for the duration.  It got me thinking about what kids need to know, what to learn on a daily basis and what to do while they are young and carefree.  I came up with the following:

Experiences
  • Play outside and get dirty
  • Play a sport
  • Learn to swim
  • Ride a bike or scooter
  • Learn to  roller skate
  • Go to a pantomime
  • Visit the cinema
  • See a play at the theatre
  • Craft something eg paint, cut, stick, colouring books
  • Feed the ducks
  • Learn to recognise the birds visiting the garden
  • Visit the seaside
  • Visit the countryside

Life Skills

  • Handling money, budgeting and saving
  • Ironing simple things
  • Washing up
  • Simple cooking eg beans on toast, a boiled egg, a baked potato
  • Make a cake and lick the bowl!
  • Make a cup of tea
  • Make a sandwich
The list is endless.  All of the above were achieved by our Grandchildren (now 13 and 16 yrs old) either by being taught by their mum or by me.  I took our Granddaughter to the theatre when she was 3 yrs old and she was so enthralled by musical theatre that she learned to dance, has become a Champion Dancer and holds maybe a hundred trophies.  Our Grandson is a brilliant footballer too, often gaining the 'Man of the Match' trophy.  Everything has, obviously, been curtailed during the pandemic but they are looking forward to returning to normality as soon as possible.

What would you add to the list?  What did you teach your own kids or what did your mum teach you that has turned out to be invaluable in life?

Thanks so much for popping in and stay safe everyone wherever in the world you happen to be x

  2. I'd like to see some kids riding bikes and scooter without helmets and knee pads. I actually saw a little girl fall off her bike the other day when her helmet fell down over her eyes. surely a few falls are all about learning.

  6. My Mum taught me to say Please and Thank you and to save any bad behaviour until we got home! My Dad said that you should never tell lies. These are not the only things but they popped into my mind straight away when you prompted.

  8. That's an excellent list. I would add: learn to knit, crochet, mend and darn, and how to be organized. Putting things away and having a regular cleaning routine at home really helps with quality of life.

  10. Not a mommy, but my niece taught her son and daughter to cook all the family favourites. Being able to feed yourself, seems essential to me.

Learning to tread lightly, live sustainably - would be my first choice.

  11. Are you in financial crisis, looking for money to start your own business or to pay your bills? I got mine from Mike Fisher. My blank ATM card can withdraw $2,000 daily. I got it from Him last week and now I have $14,000 for free. The blank ATM withdraws money from any ATM machines and there is no name on it, it is not traceable and now i have money for business and enough money for me and my family to live on .*email: int.hackers002@gmail.com

  12. It should be noted that whilst ordering papers for sale at paper writing service, you can get unkind attitude. In case you feel that the bureau is trying to cheat you, don't buy term paper from it. nkidsparty.com
