We Have Been Jabbed!

photo from Google

On Wednesday morning G and I had our Covid-19 vaccine which turned out to be a totally well organized and fuss free procedure.  We were directed straight in by a lovely smiling (despite her mask!) lady and given the Pfizer vaccine, once more asking our consent to give it.  Then 15 minutes sitting on a chair in a well ventilated and well spaced area just to check there were no immediate ill effects and then off home.  I can honestly say, hand on heart, that it was virtually painless and we have had no side effects whatsoever other than an expected bit of tenderness in the muscle of the upper arm where the needle went in.  This lasted from Wednesday evening until Thursday afternoon then disappeared. Our booster will be given in approximately 12 weeks and we were given a small card with the details of the batch number etc of the vaccine we had been given.

Changing the subject entirely....thank you to all the people who commented on my last 2 posts.  I do read all comments but just haven't got around to responding.  I appreciate each and every comment 😀

As we're into a new month, I did a roundup of the food shopping bill for January. Thankfully, I managed to pull back the spending so that the total for the month is well within budget....

2021 Food Spend to date:

January  £46.35    £93.27   £142.65   £192.58 total

I don't want to bore you rigid with a blow by blow account of my food spending so I'll leave it at that unless there is something monumental (like massive savings) to report!  I'm still going to reign it all in whilst keeping a decent store cupboard in case of shortages in the long term.

Have you noticed shortages in the supermarket?  My online shop had no decent muesli (the basic one sent was merely dust 😏) and the tinned rice was substituted with a low fat version.  Both items were sent back for a refund and I've been given a substitution voucher for £1.25 which I can take off the cost of my next delivery on Wednesday 10th. Oh and there were no Birds Eye Peas!   Having said that, I'm incredibly grateful for online deliveries still.  I really can't imagine a time when I will be comfortable pushing a trolley around the supermarket ever again.   Ilona from Life Without Money visits Aldi at 8.30pm to do her shopping.  I might try the same at some point....

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now as I'm off to make hot dogs with fried onions for lunch 😜

Nut roast and lots of veggies with gravy for tea too 😁

Stay safe, my friends, wherever in the world you happen to be x

  1. Glad you got your jabs Angie and that it was a relatively fuss free procedure. I also tend to do shopping in the later evening and our local supermarket is never busy then. Stay safe x

  3. Hello Angie,

Good to know that the vaccine roadshow has been rolled out for you. Everyone speaks of the highly professional organisation of the process. Yes, leave it to the NHS rather than Dido Harding and all will be well.

We are in Budapest and talks of Russian and Chinese vaccine are gathering pace. Well....

    1. Never have truer words been spoken, Jane, or written in this case. The NHS and the volunteers are amazing. As we are both 71 we didn't expect to get our vaccine for several weeks yet and were surprised to get the call. As for the Russian and Chinese vaccines.... :/
Hope Budapest gets sorted soon regarding the vaccine.
Thank you for following my blog Jane. Sending best wishes from the UK x

  4. I've been going to the grocery store at 6:00 a.m. It's fabulous! Have been stocking up while I'm there, as well. It feels good to replenish all of the essentials. Congratulations on getting the vaccine. I am eagerly looking forward to getting mine, but will have to wait a while, since I am in my late fifties.

    1. Well done, Stephenie, 6am is VERY early! Re the vaccine, it has been promised here in the UK that all over 50's will get theirs by May. Lets hope you don't have too long to wait.

    2. I like the early hours in the grocery. Peaceful. I got shouted at by a senior who told me that before 0900 it was seniors and healthcare workers ONLY. I pointed out that I was a 61 yo working nurse and had every right to be there.

My vaccination was cancelled to the shortage. So a frontline nurse, who is over 60 and has a few health concerns (as do several of my coworkers including two diabetics and a pacemaker) remain unvaccinated so that our doses could be redirected to nursing homes.

  5. Glad you had your jabs. We had ours last Saturday and like you it was very quick and well organized. I go shopping at 8 am and it is very quiet.

  6. The NHS and all the volunteers are doing a grand job delivering the vaccination and we seem to be ploughing ahead. I suspect all those who consider it to be a hoax will be refusing the jab. 😱😱

  7. Awesome on the jab. Wish my country was a bit better, but with the EU stopping some deliveries, and various companies having problems ramping up things seem to be at a stand still.

    God bless.

    1. It's awful that some countries are having supply difficulties. I'm sure it will improve soon. Don't give up hope of getting yours x

  8. I rely on home deliveries, too, from Sainsbury's in my case. Sometimes the substitutions are weird. I had ordered 2 bottles of Pino Grigio, a white wine, my allowance for the week. They substituted the Pinot with a BOX (£13.50) of MERLOT - a red wine. So completely opposite to my choice and rather more than two bottles-worth!
Another week, my mixed vegetable pizza was replaced with a chorizo and cheese topping ( not exactly vegetarian!)
However, I am still very grateful for my regular weekly delivery slot and their custom of issuing credit notes where my substitute has cost more than the original items. Like you, I am nervous about tackling supermarkets again, so hopefully the delivery service will remain in place post-Covid.

    1. Oh Rambler, 😳 what a lark this online shopping can be! Sainsburys is my choice too and I agree that the vouchers come in very handy. I do accept most substitutions but your pizza and wine swaps were far from ideal 🤭 Fingers crossed we can carry on with online ordering afterwards as things will not be the same again for some years, I think.
