The Cost of No Haircuts !

I usually get my hair cut every 7 weeks at a local hair salon, costing £19 for a shampoo, cut and finish.  The very last time I was able to go the cost had been increased to £21, presumably to make up for revenue lost during lockdown and subsequent social distancing measures.  Anyway, by now I would have just had my second trim of the year.  I have saved £42 plus tips but IT SHOWS!!

This is me today......

And this is how I like to look!  Spot the difference......

I can't wait to get it trimmed but dare not tackle it myself.  Perhaps I should ask  my daughter to get the clippers on it once we can meet up in the garden.  After all, she's been trimming her son's and hubby's hair all through lockdown 😷

Have you trimmed your own  hair? How did it turn out?

Thanks so much for popping in and commenting.   Stay safe wherever in the world you happen to be x

  1. I use clippers and the scissors on mine, and it's turned out better than the last cut at the hairdresser's. My hairdresser is on maternity leave, and the other person who works there turned out to be terrible!

  2. I have grown it out, keeping it at a blunt cut, which I can do myself. I like it better than the pixie I had. Easier to keep looking very neat. Maybe a bit boring, though!

    1. I wish mine looked good with a blunt cut but it really doesn't.

  3. My hairdresser has banned me from cutting my own hair as I am growing it into a bob for my son's wedding. I must be honest and say that I do rather like the bob although the shorter style was so easy to take care of.

    1. Short is easier for me too, Cherie, I envy you your son's wedding to look forward to.

  4. I cut my own. I don’t have much hair anyway so I save the pennies and do it myself. The back is tricky so I have to get the OH to do it. I just cross my fingers and hope for the best. So far so good. It looks exactly the same as when I went to the hairdressers.

    1. Well done, you must be saving a fortune. I wouldn't dare let my OH tackle it!

  5. I just got into my hairdressers before the Xmas lockdown. Walked out and regretted even going - she charged me £56 as it was a re-style (it was actually a trim), I broke my zip on my coat pocket trying to get my car keys out and I lost one of my favourite earrings all within an hour of leaving the salon!! So, since then I've trimmed my fringe myself which is an easy job. The rest is just a blunt cut to my shoulders which I've not touched and it's not coloured. I've no intention of going back!

    1. Oh Mrs LH, that IS a lot of money and you didn't have a good day at all ;( No wonder you'll not be going back...

  6. I cut my husband's hair and he is very happy with that as he says it saves a fortune. I managed to get my hair done by my mobile hairdresser in January, the day before lockdown began but it does need trimming again now. I don't feel confident to do my own though.

    1. I dare not trim mine, Beverley, other than the fringe.

  7. I rather like it a bit longer but will admit it is more difficult to manage. Tom cuts my hair and I cut his, we've done this for years.

  8. I usually have short hair but its thick and grows quickly. I cut some at the front and my grown-up granddaughter who lived with and is on furlough from her travel job cut quite a bit from the back and sides. It looks better than it did. After the first lockdown, my hairdresser said lots of her clients had taken the scissors to their hair.

    1. Thank you, Ilona. I think you make a decent job of cutting your own but I dare not tackle it.

  10. My daughter cuts my hair as I'm too stingy to pay hairdressers prices! Tom won't let me anywhere near his during lockdown he says he'd rather tie it in a ponytail! Your hair still looks very nice, it's probably only you who thinks it doesn't. If I feel my hair looks a mess I put lots of mascara on and smile at everyone in the hope it distracts them.

  11. Looked it up in last year's diary - my last hair cut was 7th September. One appt. cancelled due to Covid and I await the reopenning before I am able to drop the shaggy look.

    1. Wow, almost 6 months! I wish my hair looked good longer but it's hard to manage.

  12. I cut my own fringe as it was going into my eyes...a big mistake.

  13. My non lockdown hair is a short bob, today it's a long bob, still looks good but far too long for me, I had my last haircut in early December. Daughter cuts her sons and husbands hair with clippers, they look decent enough. Your longer style still looks good, but if it's not for you then nothing we say can change that. Roll on everyone getting their hair cut, my hubby looks like a mad professor, white hair curling on his collar.

  14. Not sure if it’s a good thing but I have saved even more money. Round here I have to pay £29 just for a dry cut. Wish I could save less - if you see what I mean!
