Last week I added up the amount spent on food deliveries for the month of June. Our budget is £200 per month for food, toiletries, treats and household cleaning stuff but the total came to a shocking £273.95. This cannot continue because it will eat into our contingency fund and if G can't ultimately go back to work after the pandemic then we will not be able to replace it. We have saved on eating out and visiting coffee shops etc but have spent additional money on bits and pieces we couldn't get delivered (and which are usually included in our normal budget, for example: hand gel, soap etc)
At the weekend I ordered another Morrisons meat essentials food box for delivery towards the end of next week. For £35 it should provide enough meat for G for two weeks worth of meals as well as basics such as bread, milk, veg, pasta, pasta sauce, cheese, butter etc I need to make a meal plan. Sue from Challenging Myself has planning down to a fine art. Her new challenge involves eating from a vegan food box over 2 weeks. She is brilliant! Do check out her blog you will find it on my side bar.
Have the prices gone up in the supermarket? Or is our overspend due to not physically going into supermarkets and missing our usual bargains? Maybe because the basics ranges are not available to online shoppers ?
Have you found that you are spending more too?
Stay safe everyone, wherever in the world you happen to be x

I have begun a new blog: Small Treasures Revived. I can't work out how to put a link to it but clicking on 'my profile' should ...

My new herb pot! It was election day in the UK on Thursday and I was lucky enough to be employed for the day as Poll Clerk in my local area....

Gosh, has it only been a week since Easter Sunday? It somehow feels much longer. A big thank you to those who left comments on my last coup...
Prices have increased, and will, no doubt, continue to rise once the trade deals are negotiated or not, and we crash out without a deal. I've spent more on shopping as I'm using Sainsbury's click and collect, but that's been offset by buying very little else for almost 3 months.
ReplyDeleteI got my already programmed and blanked ATM card to withdraw the maximum of $1,000 daily for a maximum of 20 days. I am so happy about this because i got mine last week and I have used it to get $20,000. Mike Fisher Hackers is giving out the card just to help the poor and needy though it is illegal but it is something nice and he is not like other scam pretending to have the blank ATM cards. And no one gets caught when using the card. get yours from Mike Fisher Hackers today! *email cyberhackingcompany@gmail.com

Yes definitely prices have gone up. Some local shops are profiteering too. My deodorant (the brand I've used all my adult life) was £1.40 in Morrisons. In my local shop it's £3.99. A pack of 4 tins tuna is 7.99 - much cheaper elsewhere in the supermarkets.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked whether there is a local community shop which is being run by volunteers? No delivery charges but they provide basic provisions.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid there are none in our area but thank you for the suggestion :)
DeleteI think I am spending about the same on food, even with having my groceries delivered to me. It is just me here, so I don't do a lot of inspired cooking and I am not spending much on other things, no lunches at restaurants or coffee with friends. Here in California some of my friends pick up a free bag of groceries, lots of fresh fruit and veg, each week from a big volunteer group.
ReplyDeleteYour volunteer group sound wonderful. It must be a real lifeline for many people
DeleteThings have gone up I think. I'm only supermarket shopping once a fortnight and then going to local village Co-op in between which is more expensive but saving on diesel
ReplyDeleteIt's true that we are saving on fuel, Sue, I hadn't included the savings there but the increase in food cost is more than the saving in diesel sadly.
DeleteDefinitely spending more. An example is the price of 1kg of sr flour was double the price I normally pay for 1 and a half kg. Most shops haven't got any flour except plain in the Polish shop and that is also double for a smaller bag.
ReplyDeleteFlour and yeast seem to be non existent here, Jean, I'm fast running out.
DeleteI've been relying on Tesco deliveries throughout the Lockdown weeks . . . months . . I am spending more than usual on groceries, but nothing on diesel or a weekly meal out and occasional quiz nights which involved an entrance fee, the buying of raffle tickets and a couple of glasses of wine (the quiz gets more entertaining as the wine goes down!) Maybe the extra grocery cost has been because of the extra wine I am drinking!???!! But I NEED a treat when life is so boring.
ReplyDeleteOf COURSE you need a treat, Rambler, and wine is my 'go to' treat too!
DeleteYes, I think prices have gone up. I didn't realise that if you order online you couldnt get Basics ranges.
ReplyDeleteMany Basics tins/ packets are simply not listed on Sainsburys, Angela, so I have to buy branded on many occasions which tend to come much more expensive. I'm just grateful to get my shopping delivered still....
DeleteLike you we are not going out for our usual coffees or occasional meal out and yet my money isn't go as far.
ReplyDeleteI do have a regular slot with Asda but I have to spend £40 in one go and sometimes I do not have that much to buy, if I miss two weeks I lose my slot so now am in a dilemma in case the virus springs up again and I cannot get another slot. Oh, I get sick of it all sometimes don't you?
Briony

Yes, Briony, it's all very tiring and worrisome. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel now; a bit of breathing space...
DeleteBriony crafty cat corner if your are priority due to shielding the £40 limit does not apply on online with ASDA.
ReplyDeleteGroceries have definitely gone up in price. There were fewer offers during the lockdown because shops could guarantee regular supplies at the time. But things are returning to normal.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely been spending more. Things have gone up in price and we are having some shortages here. This means that when I see an item that has been on the list before, but I was unable to get, I grab it immediately.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes, Jackie, I must admit I've been buying extra when it becomes available but I still don't seem to have that much in my store cupboard and freezer :/
DeleteWe've found we're buying more brand names than usual which has increased the price of certain things as well as general increases. The chap shopped at a different supermarket last week and it was much cheaper so I think we might do a swap to take advantage of the savings.
ReplyDeleteYes, prices have definintely gone up over the past couple of months, I've noticed it on lots of our basic shopping items. And of course due to the limits on the amounts of what you can actually buy there have been fewer offers.
ReplyDeleteMy Challenge is definitely going to save me money as now I don't have to physically go shopping for the next two weeks there will be no temptation to buy that odd bottle of wine or bag of crisps, I have been having more than the odd treat of an evening since lockdown began.
I think treats have become the norm for many of us ;)
DeleteWe thought our food bill had gone up, but because we can only get a delivery every 10 to 15 days we were buying more than our weekly shop.
ReplyDeleteI watch the prices posted on the shelves in our regular grocery store... and they HAVE gone up here in Missouri. Even the prices at Aldi have gone up... except for the wine. It went down and I stocked up!!
ReplyDeleteAnd why not? We need TREATS!
DeleteYes, we have been spending more in the grocery stores and it may be a combination of factors all related to the current virus crisis. We are doing our own shopping but know several people who have been getting deliveries and they said doing so is even more costly. So you are not alone
ReplyDeleteI don't know how some families are coping with the price rises, Beatrice, especially with a big family to feed....
DeleteI do miss the YS bargains, Marlene, but can't bring myself to battle the queues to get them xx
