A Double Whammy...

Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post.  I think most people know how to be sensible and we can only look after our own families, I think.

We have had another eventful few days.  After my shock diagnosis of skin cancer, I persuaded G to ring the nurse about a lump which has appeared over the last few weeks on his temple (mine on the right, his on the left) She asked to see a photograph and then booked him in for a face to face consultation a few days later.  In the meantime antibiotic cream was prescribed to put on it.  On Monday morning he tootled off to see the nurse and by lunchtime the local hospital was ringing him to offer an appointment the next day.  An appointment within 24 is unheard of!  This rang alarm bells with me.  Anyway he pootled off to see the consultant next day, on his own as I was not allowed to go with him.  He was told that he too has skin cancer.  He had to go to another department to have the lump photographed and measured (4mm) and snapped a shot of the form he had to take with him on his phone.  The consultant had written SCC? Even with my scant medical knowledge I read that as a possible Squamous Cell Carcinoma which is NOT a good kind to get.  He is now awaiting treatment too and more than 4 weeks on I still haven't been called for.  I sincerely hope that G is treated first.....

On the news tonight we have been told that our area is moving up a tier from medium into high lockdown.  What more can happen?  Do you ever feel that you are a swan; calm and serene on the outside but paddling like mad beneath the water to stay afloat?  That's exactly how I feel right now......

Stay safe everyone, wherever in the world you happen to be x

  2. These are intense times. I'm glad that your husband saw a doctor right away. My dad had to have some skin cancer removed near his nose when he was 88. I hope all goes well. You are in my thoughts.

  4. I am sorry you are going through this. Hopefully both of you caught it soon enough and everything turns out well. My husband had some skin cancer removed from his neck a few years ago and is still doing well.

It seems like all countries are moving backwards as far as lockdowns and regulations during this time. I sometimes wish my province would have a few mandates.

    God bless.

  5. We've moved into Tier 3 today in Nottinghamshire. Sorry to hear of G's diagnosis. Hopefully he will get his treatment asap. I took my mum for a brain MRI last week (her first outing since last March). They were very efficient, but we had to leave the dept. twice whilst waiting as they were expecting 2 covid in-patient for scans and wanted to avoid others.

  7. Once you are in their systems they do try and get things sorted quickly, which is a good thing, but it can feel like a merry go round with hospital visits. I hope you are both sorted quickly and can get back to our normal (bloody hell not normal) lives.

  9. Life to us now seems to be like walking through treacle. Each day a new problem seems to crop up to ruin the day. I feel for you both as its scary but Tom is terminal and there is no hope for him. It's not pleasant watching him fight for breath and knowing that I cannot do a thing,
I hope you both get sorted out quickly. One day at a time is all we can do and try to keep cheerful.

    1. Oh Briony, no wonder you feel as if you're wading through treacle. One day at a time is certainly the only way to go. Sending hugs to you and Tom xx

  10. I hope you both receive speedy treatment/after treatment. It's a good job you've been on the ball, women are far more vigilant about health. We are tier 2 in Essex, the rules are complicated. So its stay home as much as possible.

    1. Thank you Tania. Yes, I'm glad I persuaded G to see the nurse because he would have left it for months before doing so. We've gone up a tier this morning to 'High' :(

  11. I looked back on my blog to see when I had skin cancer, it was February 2017. It too was Squamous Cell Carcinoma on the side of my nose. My surgeon told me that SCC usually comes back but so far, touch wood, I haven't had any more. She gave me some amazing gel called Stratamed that I had to put on 3 times a day. It really was amazing as I have no scar at all. Hope all goes well for you and hubby.
