Rules? What Rules?

The lockdown restrictions in the UK are to start being lifted on Monday with more people being allowed to meet in a public place while still keeping 2 metres apart. This worries me.  I know that the rules will be flouted because they already are.  Our next door neighbours have been having house guests for weeks.  The day before yesterday was the third small party this month.  Each time, their patio doors are open wide, music is played at full blast whilst they sit in the jacuzzi, then they all go indoors to eat, rinse and repeat until around 7.30pm.  As our house is small with a tiny garden we find that the music is as loud in our garden as it is in theirs and so we can't open our own patio doors until the guests have gone home.  On the previous occasion, the 76 yr old grandma collected the baby girl in the morning and took her off in the car until the evening.  The young woman living next door then collected a friend who spent the afternoon there and then drove her home again.  Social distancing?

When I heard the Jacuzzi pump again yesterday and saw a car load of food shopping going in to the house, my heart sank.  Then a woman and 2 little girls arrived.  I saw the boyfriend preparing to drive off (which he usually does because he hates these parties) I nabbed him and asked if his girlfriend intended to have music again because if so could she please keep it down.  He was very apologetic and went back in to make my feelings known.  There was music... but on a more tolerable level from around 2pm until 6.30pm 'ish.  I know this post makes it sound as if I'm a curtain twitcher but my kitchen is at the front of the house so I see lots of things going on without trying!  It's warm and sunny again today.....heaven help us....

A certain Mr Cummings hasn't helped matters...

Are you seeing people disregarding the lockdown rules?  Are you worried about a second spike in infection?

Changing the subject completely, G has treated me to new tablet computer as my old one is on it's last legs.  It's lovely apart from the fact I can't seem to upload any photos from it :/   I'm a complete technophobe so the solution is probably staring me in the face. Anyway, that's the reason my posts have been completely devoid of photos of late.  I'll have to upload some from my phone instead.

I'll be back soon.  Stay safe everyone wherever in the world you happen to be x

  1. It's one of the reasons I've been so pleased to be in Wales at the moment, the rules here are much tighter and there's much more Police involvement in clamping down on rule breakers. Sending day-trippers home, turning back caravans and checking on holiday homes/second homes to make sure that they do only have key workers staying in them if they have a need to do so. But saying that it's because people do phone the Police and let them know of any rule breakers.

Of course the down-side to living in Wales has been the total inability to go out other than for shopping or picking up medicines. The rules finally relaxed slightly yesterday and we are now able to drive for up to 5 miles to begin exercise or visit one other household. As we don't know any other households that we would want to visit, this has just given us the ability to travel to the nearest town to walk the dogs along the river, or drive to the nearest layby to begin a dog walk along a public footpath.

I do wish more people in England would behave themselves, all my family live there!!

    1. I wish enforcement of the rules was much stricter here too, Sue, people are really pushing the boundaries. At least it will cheer up your dogs to have a really lovely walk now that you can travel a bit further.

  2. Our neighbour has had her family visiting the whole time, and today for the 2nd weekend her boyfriend is there staying, they are not youngsters. Her daughter told me at the start he mum had to shield herself. Like you we are uneasy about the relaxing of measures, I will vusibeach of my daughters houses, but in the garden and keeping my distance.

  3. I'm in the UK and the attitude of some people worries me. I think the govt is trying to do to much too quickly and there doesn't appear to be space in their plans to stop and see how each change has affected the infection rate.

I'm not aware of any issues near my home but there are plenty of complaints on the local community page - parties involving numerous households and no social distancing, teenagers playing football on the pitch tackling and hugging each other, and one man inviting all of his friends round for drinks in the house. With news like this I can't see any way we will avoid a second spike.

    1. I'm sure there WILL be a second spike Eileen. If people are breaching the rules now then it can only get worse.

  4. The easing of the rules is not good in my opinion. From what I see, some people act like there's no lockdown even now so God knows what's going to happen from Monday. I'm no scientist but the R number isn't as low as it ought to be in my opinion, to enable further loosening of the rules. You have my sympathy re.noisy neighbours! I always say I wish I had a,neighbour just like me!!

    1. Lockdown easing is too much too soon in my opinion. Within the next 2 weeks I will be amazed if the R number doesn't shoot up to more than 1 and they will have to back track in some way.
Good neighbours are sometimes hard to find Mrs LH!

  5. One day last week I read 5 blogs on which the writer said quite openly that they'd either had people round to their garden, or visited other people in theirs, or both! 2 of them said they'd had people in the house too.
We're still at 4 on the 1-5 scale, and yet the government is loosening lockdown. I saw a list today of the deaths in other European countries that had been reported yesterday . The lowest was 2, the highest was 87. The UK had 324.

    1. Blatant about the breaches, aren't they Scarlet. It's as if they are proud in their defiance. Our death rate is still far too high to release lockdown in my opinion.

  6. Oh, what a shame. Having neighbors like that is so stressful. I'm seeing people doing what they want in California, too. Everyone seems to have a reason why it's okay in their situation. At least it's quiet. It's frustrating when people refuse to follow the rules. Some of our restrictions here have eased, but I am still very careful. No gatherings for me.

  7. Every day since lockdown, there have been people in my street sitting together from 10 am...drinking tea in their dressing gowns, all from about 6 different houses. Then it is an afternoon drinking party...sometimes until 12 at night.I have spoke to them, the police have said its ok!!!..because they move apart when the police have driven up!.There is also a nurse or care worker of sort who sits with them before she goes to work...she has the uniform on!.Im worried that here in the Midlands,uk..it is every man for his self now and me and my family will keep within the rules,Stay safe,xx

  9. On the whole I think our road is ‘ behaving itself’. The only gathering we have had was VE day, when we all sat in our families at a distance from everyone else. But on the Quay, it has been a completely different kettle of fish at times. In fact I think it made the front of one of the daily newspapers a couple of days ago! The popular beaches are also a no go for us. Fortunately, we have a good choice of beaches, so if we want to go to one, we would choose a less popular one.

  10. I agree, Angie, that it's unfortunate so many people are gathering now. Some of our lock down rules have been relaxed a bit, but there are still restrictions, mask wearing is still very prevalent here, which is good. I agree with wearing one all the time when in public places like stores, post office, pharmacy. But I do remove it when sitting outside by the riverside to read.

  11. Reading some of the blogs I am so glad that we are quite isolated and have really good neighbours.
