They are coming along nicely now, they just need a drop of water as they are a bit dry despite all the rain we have had lately. I'll do it in a minute....
I spotted some healthy looking fungi under the hedge in the lane this morning but I have absolutely no idea whether they are edible or not. I went back to take a photo but someone had kicked and smashed them so perhaps they are not. In any case it seems like wanton destruction to me to just flatten them as they looked lovely, just like fairy toadstools. One is just about visible under the glossy leaves in the left of the photo....
I will continue to scan all the blog posts for foraging stories, perhaps I will learn where to look sometime soon :)
Have a lovely afternoon, whatever you are doing x
At least you have grown a few things, and yes they do taste better, I love mushrooms but I wouldn't forage for them, you have to be so careful.
ReplyDeleteI would probably poison us if I picked mushrooms, Marlene, although a neighbour forages for them regularly. She seems to know what she is doing, I don't x
DeleteNo, I wouldn't pick wild mushrooms either, I don't know enough about them. The only wild plums I've seen nearby are right beside a main (and very busy) road - nowhere to stop and they'd be covered in traffic fumes. Well done on growing some of your own stuff.
ReplyDeleteWild plums sound lovely but, yes, traffic fumes would have been absorbed by them I imagine.
DeleteIt's not so much picking poisonous mushrooms that worries me its the memories of my dad foraging for mushrooms when I was younger. After I sliced them several little maggots crawled out! It's surprising what you come across when out & about I came across some sloes this morning. Lovely looking carrots xx
ReplyDeleteAArrgghh! Maggots! That's put me off completely...lol... x
