Bills, Bills and More Bills!

It's been a rather lovely day today.  We've had a tiny bit of sunshine and it's still bitingly cold but at least it's been dry.  It's given the Spring flowers time to recover a little from their battering. It's not quite time to clear up the garden and prepare for growth to start in earnest but the strawberry plants have been tidied up and put into the tiny plastic 'greenhouse' to warm up a bit. Result!

Do you know, just when I think the bank balance is looking healthier, bills plop onto the doormat just to spite me ;)  I was just congratulating myself that the car insurance has only increased by a few pence (so I paid it) when the LPG man came to top up the gas. In the course of a week we have had:

Car Insurance £168.44 (annual)
LPG £89.56
Electricity (6 months)  £330.75
Caravan storage spot   £300 (annual)
Rates, water & sewerage charges £513 (annual)

Total £1401.75

Of course, we also have the council tax shortly recommencing (we pay by DD) and which has increased slightly this year, the phone and broadband have increased too. The only wriggle room we have is in the food budget so the purse strings will stay tight there.  Everything else was written down and budgeted for at the start of the year. I have nothing left to put on fleabay but am keeping track of Stash To Cash for a while yet.

Blimey, after writing all that down I need a strong cup of tea! Is it just me or is the beginning of the year always worse for bills?

Stay safe everyone and thanks so much for popping in x

Stash To Cash £29.50

  1. Wouldn't life be much nicer without never ending bills? Last week I was so pleased when I signed up to a cheaper gas and electricity deal saving £10 a month, only for the council tax bill to arrive with an increase of £7 a month! X

  2. We are down to 3/12 left in the oil tank - hope it lasts a bit longer as heating oil is expensive at the mo due to the cold.
Everything has gone up so far this year except car insurance

  4. Do you live in a static home? Some of your bills seem quite high? Can you negotiate withe the electric company? Or find a cheaper supplier. Your water is twice the average too. Hope you don't mind me saying.

    1. We do indeed live in a park home, Tania, and I don't mind you saying at all. Our hands are tied regarding suppliers because the park owner gets billed for electricity and then splits the cost between us residents. We don't even know if he makes a profit from it :? It's the same with the commercial rates, water and sewerage costs. The owner bills us every year. We can't have a water meter fitted and we pay council tax too (which normally includes sewerage charges) The living costs here are rocketing which is why we need to rent or buy a small place elsewhere in the not too distant future
