I have been making cards for more than 15 years and only treated myself to a Big Shot machine about 3 years ago so you can, in fact, manage without one. I still cut squares and rectangles by hand using just a metal edged ruler and craft knife and I used to buy die cut shapes on eBay before I had a machine. It is possible to achieve the professional look simply by adding ribbon and gems to your design. Do I need to invest in a die cutting machine or can I muddle along without one for a while? Probably won't look as professional without investing in one though.
