A Cinema Treat & 'The Fund'

I have just returned from the cinema, Silver Cinema to be precise.  OH is working today (his voluntary job) and I didn't want to sit at home worrying about things so tootled off to the 11am showing of Bridge of Spies.  It cost just £3 and I got a paper cup full of delicious coffee and two digestive biscuits included in the price .... a bargain!  I got over two hours worth of escapism for my money and didn't succumb to the overpriced snacks either.  Knowing I would need another drink during the showing I took a small apple juice carton in my handbag so rather than spend £1.99 (How much!)  on a small bottle of water it cost me less than 19p for my juice drink.  When the kids were small I used to make sandwiches to take with us and pop them in my biggest handbag because my son, in particular, was always hungry and could eat for England :/  I never had money for food out then so the habit has kind of stuck with me. I'm sure I'm not alone in doing this.....

A 'birthday fund' update.....Two small items have sold on fleabay so another £7 has been added to the fund making £43.69 in total.  I set my heart on making £50 for DD's birthday so I am almost there with 2 weeks to go :)  I have some card orders from friends so payment for those should nudge me ever closer to the £50.

For my year of 'Do More Good' I sorted out my costume jewellery drawer at the weekend and have taken a bag full of items to the Hospice shop along with another half dozen handmade cards for them to sell.  I am also currently knitting another baby cardigan for them which I hope to finish by next weekend.

Have a lovely day everyone, whatever you have planned x

  1. We're going to the Grow Your Own (allotment) show on Friday (tickets purchased by my lovely daughter for us for our Christmas pressie) - the flask for a hot coffee is washed and ready and there were some bread rolls left from a family get together at the weekend, they were frozen on Sunday and will be taken out of the freezer On Thursday night ready for our lunch on Friday so the day out will only cost us for the petrol - I've always put flasks and sandwiches up for days out - I'm afraid old habits stick - glad you enjoyed your film xx

  2. Lucky you, nice afternoon entertainment, We still don't pay cinema prices for snacks, on the rare times we go, I always take something with us. I don't see the need to eat the whole of the time the film is on.

  3. Wow thats a great price for the cinema, its years since we went to see a film.

On Sunday we were travelling back from Plymouth, I had already purchased half price 75p egg mayo sandwiches at Tesco but we decided to stop at the motorway services for a comfort break and buy a takeaway coffee each..... £6.36 !!!! Good job its 6 months before our next trip, I need to save up again! Lol x

    1. Good grief, Karen, that's a lot of money for coffee. I do occasionally have one as a treat but £3.18 each? No way :)

  5. I had never heard about Silver Cinema until a friend mentioned it this week, what a great idea. I travel a lot with work and always carry a flask, lunches and snacks, I refuse to pay the price in shops/takeaways/coffee shops xxx
