FREE Fruit & Veg And My Wheels Are Back

Whoop whoop! I have my car back!  It has cost an eye watering £312.62 but it was returned to me at 7pm last night, just in time to save DH from going to work on the bus this morning (it wouldn't have hurt him now, would it ;)  Fingers crossed when I say this but it seems OK, no damage to the engine, thankfully.

Yesterday, my lovely Father in Law gave me 2 Sun newspaper vouchers for Morrisons fruit & veg.  By spending £10 it gave me £5 off so this lot here cost me just £5.82 I am really pleased with that as I want to ramp up our intake of fruit & veg now that the weather is turning colder.  I have some sausages in the freezer so Sunday lunch is sorted....sausages (veggie ones for me)  lots of veg and gravy.  That will leave plenty of veg for a veggie stew, peppers for omelettes, cauliflower cheese etc and baked apples with custard. Yum!

I tried to give away my spare voucher in the store but nobody wanted it. One gentleman carefully adding up his items with a calculator already had a voucher and other people didn't want to spend even £5 on fruit & veg. Astonishing really when they were filling their trolleys with alcohol, ready meals and expensive nibbles.

I wanted to pop into M & S to look at the reductions and remembered that I had a voucher for the coffee shop.  A reviving medium filter coffee cost £2 and I got 3 slices of brown toast, butter and marmalade FREE.  Although small slices of bread, I could only eat 2 so I buttered the third, wrapped it in my serviette and popped it into my bag for later.  Does anyone else feel guilty slipping perfectly good uneaten food into a bag for later?  I hate waste but hope that people don't think I am penniless :)

I hope you are all having a good day and surviving the crowds if you have to shop today.

Thanks ever so for popping in x

  1. Gosh that was a lot of money for the car. Well done on all your fruit and veg, I might have done it if we needed anything but we were ok, and we have to travel for about 35 mins to the big supermarkets, I wouldn't feel guilty about taking the toast home, we always take home the sugar sachets, we don't take sugar in drinks but I sprinkle some on cakes or porridge, and we also take sauce sachets, anything to save a little. My package arrived today, I am saving it until christmas, its up to you if you open yours before, thankyou so much, I sent you an email., have a nice weekend, Marlene, x

    1. Luckily we live just 3 miles or so from Morrisons so it's no effort. Thank heavens it's not just me taking stuff home. Have a great weekend too, Angie x

  2. Shame about the car, oh the joys of motoring! Great news with the veggies though, they look fab!

We went out for a famiky dinner last week and I always take a plastic tub, the portions are huge. My dad used the tub for his huge portion Apple and Peach nutty crumble And custard, he had it for his lunch next day. I am never ashamed to ask them to package food up for home, I hate waste and they have to pay to get rid of it so its a win win situation :-). I have a friend who has sweeteners in her drinks so Morrisons donate a few :-) xx

    1. A plastic tub is a great idea. I'm happier now I know I'm not alone in not wasting food. My brother uses sweeteners and always seems to have a pocketful!

  3. Garage bills, like dentist bills can be stinkers some times can't they? That's a great fruit and veg haul

  4. Ouch! with the cost of the car but you've got it back pretty quickly so that was good and well done with fruit and veg voucher you did manage to get a lot there xx

  5. I'm glad your car is sorted for you now, a very costly experience though! I have a small appetite so I always take the remainder of any meal home if we eat out. No matter how loudly some people may tut. You have a great selection of fruit & veg there, it is a pity no one else would take your remaining voucher.

  6. Thanks, Joanne. Another frugal person! Well done on ignoring the tutters :)

  7. Oh yes, ignore the tutters! Our treat is a coffee at Costa and they'll always decant your coffee into a takeaway cup should you not be able to finish up :) If someone wanted to take home left-overs from their plate from my table, I'd be very flattered! Fold one of those resealable food bags into your bag - useful!

    1. Two great tips there, Elaine, I would never think to ask for my remaining coffee in a paper cup, thank you.
